A New Beginning : Good News and Bad (The Sarah Jane Adventures An Update)
Friday, 18 April, 2008
Yesterday saw the start of filming for Series Two of The Sarah Jane Adventures, the spin-off from Doctor Who featuring the Earthbound adventures of the Doctor’s former travelling companion Sarah Jane Smith and her young friends. This is both good news and bad news. Good news because, The Sarah Jane Adventures was such a good series, and it is great to see it back in production. Bad news because they were filming a new family moving into 10, Bannerman Road, the house where Maria Jackson and her father Alan lived, which means that it looks as if there has been some major recasting on this series. Maria was the main contact character between the weridness that Sarah Jane was in constant contact with and the the everyday normal life of the audience. Yasmin Paige, who played Maria was a remarkably talented actress for someone so young, and if she has left the series, then it is a great loss.
So, onto the replacements. As ever, Scott Frankton aka Scooty was on the case. How does he know when and where filming is going to be, does he have a psychic ability? Anyway, he took the photograph below. My immediate thought was “why is that woman, who must be at least 25 years, wearing a school uniform. They must be going for a slightly older character this time around.

Ah, Sarah Jane.!!!! By far the best companion prior to Billie. You might enjoy this:
